I have been in love with Gang Gang Dance ever since hearing “Before My Voice Fails“, so needless to say I was super excited to come upon across their this gem “Nicoman”, for their 2007 EP RAWWAR. Lizzi Bougatsos’s vocals have always been a thing of marvel, with this piece being no exception. The timing of the vocals is perfect fit perfectly with the middle eastern world sound accompanying them. Gang Gang Dance have always had a sound that is familiar yet extremely foreign at the same time. I particularly like how the song is structured. The way it builds up starting at the 1:45 mark and then reins the tempo in before the the end finishing on a strong note. Definitely quality stuff here.

As I mentioned to in my write up of Nicos Gun’s “Dirty Girl”, when you hear the double clap its time to rock the dancing shoes. With “Neurotic Nancy” from LA based Bullet & Snowfox, this age old principle holds true. The song begins with a driving kick drum and a textbook dance synth which is soon followed by a bright rhythm guitar section. The vocals do well to parallel the vibe created by the instrumentation, ultimately creating fun upbeat dance rock song with a super sticky chorus that will be bouncing around in your head hours after listening. Perhaps the most refreshing aspect of Bullet & Snowfox is how well the music translates from the digital realm to the stage. I had the opportunity to see them live this past weekend and they definitely rocked the place despite it being a bazillion and half degrees that day. This track and five others are available now on iTunes.

More dubstep today, this time with a track from Virtuo5 titled “Into The Spotlight”. This track uses layers upon layers of synths to create an spaced out soundscape, while the crowd noise sample help develop the theme. I also really enjoy the how the driving melody falls prey to pitch bending effect before the impending drops. Speaking of which, Virtuo5 does a good job changing the pace of the song while incorporating killer bass.
Just hours ago LA based Dillon Francis and Cory Enemy released a free 3 track EP titled Ultra. If you are a fan of glitched out dubstep with killer synth 8bit synths, then I highly recommend you grab this while you can. Hello, even if you’re not a fan go ahead and download it, as they were nice enough to give it away for free. You can find the download links in the player below. Enjoy!
The Wu Tang Clan not only changed the game with their 1993 release Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), but more recently have been the focus for some interesting mash up and remix albums (see Think Differently and Enter the Dubstep ). Doc Adam throws his hat in the ring with his offering “Wu Tang Slang.” This track takes the classic “Wu Tang Ain’t Nothing Ta Fuck Wit” and throws down a hard moomba beat. Where Doc shows his quality is in the the sample selection. He proceeds to chop up memorable lyrics while preserving a lot of the familiar sonic elements that made the original song a classic.
